Home Stitched Wares and Restorations began as a Covid necessity, where my first projects were masks. I quickly remembered how much I loved sewing, and the masks led to bags, totes, towels and more. When I first got the idea to make masks for my family, I channeled the love and skills from my maternal grandmother, Patricia Brown. She was beyond skilled in the art of creating beautiful projects with her hands and her sewing machine. I hadn’t sewn in over 20 years, but the skills I learned in home economics in junior high quickly came back to me and I would spend hours at the sewing machine cranking out masks for my family, and eventually started selling locally. I took orders, made novelty masks for holidays, and even shipped several orders out of state. I was very proud of my handiwork, and it gave me the confidence to branch out into other creative outlets.

The next thing I fell in love with was watching oodles and oodles of furniture refinishing clips on Instagram and YouTube. I took it all in, saving posts, taking notes, and following my faves. I told myself I wanted to get started with this new creative avenue, but to be honest, I was a bit nervous to actually get started. It wasn’t until 2022, when I dove in. Whelp, needless to say my suspicions were right and I LOVE it. I have been able to really dive in (with a very chill hubby who doesn’t mind me taking over the garage with all of my supplies and a ton of free/thrifted furniture).

I have been able to create some really cool pieces, and now am on to comissioned work. I find the pieces, refinish or add my own special touches, and I truly love what I do. It took me a bit of time to find it and have the courage to dig in, but it is my passion, my therapy and my dream. I love to try new things, use new products, and report my findings. The amount of different types of paint, brushes, knobs and more out there leaves me like a kid in a candy store. Literally. It has been SO MUCH FUN.
